On the circus, we used to make these bows out of the sticks we put inflatible toys up with by stringing about six rubber bands together from both tips. It was pretty strong and if you used another of the sticks as an arrow you could get it pretty far. The target of choice was always a empty cardboard boxes that the circus toy stock would come in.
